Vintage Fender Heater Centre Tap

I'm replacing the PT in an old Fender with a new Hammond 290EEX. The Hammond has a heaters center tap. Some people say it's better to seal the CT lead and create an artificial one using 2x 100R/2W resistors to GND to spare the XFMR in case of a short but I'm reading a very interesting book by Merlin Blencowe that suggests you can also use a 100R resistor to GND on the CT BUT Merlin doesn't state any power rating for that resistor.
