Statistics Ph.D. student João Vitor Romano has been awarded a fellowship from The Voleon Group for the 2026-27 academic year. A gold-level partner in the Berkeley Statistics Industry Alliance Program, Voleon is one of the world's leading quantitative investment management firms. Voleon was co-founded by faculty member Jon McAuliffe. A 2005 graduate of the Berkeley Statistics program, McAuliffe was advised by Distinguished Professor Emeritus Michael Jordan.

Romano is a fourth-year Ph.D. student advised by Ryan Tibshirani. His research focuses on probabilistic forecasting and reliable sequential prediction.
