Max Miller’s Tasting History: The Board Game
Tasting History with Max Miller is must-watch YouTube for me. Miller is a wonderful storyteller, and his show melds interesting history lessons with period-appropriate recipes. As it turns out, he’s also a fan of board games. His new game is now live on Kickstarter.
If you haven’t watched the show before, you should give it a try. Before jumping in, you might want to know more about hardtack and garum. The “clack clack” sound of smacking two pieces of hardtack together comes up regularly. It’s from an early episode: “How to Eat Like a Pirate: Hardtack & Grog”. One of the first hit episodes on the channel described the process of making garum. The ancient fish sauce was covered more recently in “Ancient Roman Garum Revisited”, and then once more in “The History of Fish Sauce - Garum and Beyond!”.
I highly recommend the episode “What it was like to visit a Medieval Tavern”. The story of how Osbert of Elstow died by misadventure amuses me much more than it probably should.
All that said, the main story here is the board game. It’s a worker placement game, and Miller does a great job describing it in the trailer. It sounds fun to me! The game was fully backed in the first five minutes, so others are excited as well.
If any of this sounds interesting, you should definitely check out the campaign on Kickstarter.
