EverWind To Build Nova Scotia Data Center, Lease to AI Developer

EverWind Fuels Co. has announced more than C$10 billion ($7.1 billion) for a data center campus and wind generation infrastructure in Nova Scotia, calling it the largest privately funded investment in the province’s history.

The Canadian clean energy company says more than C$8 billion will go toward building and owning a data center at its existing Point Tupper industrial site, while C$2 billion will expand its onshore wind portfolio.

The company says it’s reached a long-term lease agreement with a “leading frontier AI developer” for the initial phase of the data center campus.

“The development is advancing with commitments to protect existing electricity ratepayers, safeguard local water resources and deliver lasting community benefits,” EverWind said in a news release, adding that it will fund electricity infrastructure costs attributable to the project and will work with partners to establish a community benefit program worth tens of millions of dollars.

The data center is expected to begin with an initial 95-megawatt phase in late 2027, followed by a 325-megawatt expansion in 2028. Its full capacity will be 420 megawatts.

Energy Minister Tim Hodgson said in statement that the investment represents “a powerful example of Canada’s energy opportunity in action — and exactly the kind of investment our government has been working to attract from day one.”

EverWind says the project will support 2,000 construction positions across the staged build-out and 215 permanent operating jobs.
