Russia Says Drones Attacked Two Oil Refineries, Interfax Reports
Russia accused Ukraine of attacking two oil refineries on Wednesday, saying the strikes showed Kyiv wasn’t moving toward an energy ceasefire promoted by US President Donald Trump. Ukraine denied the claim.
Interfax cited Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak as saying that Ukrainian drones targeted refineries in the Saratov and Ryazan regions. Ukraine denied the accusations, with an aide to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy calling the Russian information fake.
Bloomberg could not independently verify the claim.
Trump said on Truth Social last week that he had reached an “energy truce” between Russia and Ukraine. On Monday, however, he acknowledged that neither side had committed to stop attacks on the other’s energy infrastructure.
Ryazan, near Moscow, has a processing capacity of about 400,000 barrels a day, and is among the largest oil refineries in Russia, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Saratov has a capacity of about 140,000 barrels a day.
Ukraine says it hasn’t attacked Russian refineries since Trump announced the ceasefire, while Russia damaged Kyiv energy infrastructure overnight, cutting off power and water supply across the capital.
