Brazil Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has authorized Senator Flávio Bolsonaro to visit his father and former President Jair Bolsonaro who’s under house arrest less than two weeks before the presidential runoff.

In a court decision published Monday, Moraes approved the resumption of visits, but noted that “political or electoral purposes are prohibited, as is the dissemination of any manifestos or statements, including by third parties, regardless of the medium used.”

Moraes barred visits from Bolsonaro’s eldest son in July after he claimed that Flávio had abused his visitation rights to help Bolsonaro circumvent a court-ordered social media ban by publishing a letter from the former president.

Flávio Bolsonaro will face President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Oct. 25 runoff, after winning 47% of the vote in the first round over Lula’s 45%. The surprising outcome has made him the favorite to win the runoff and take Brazil to the right.

Bolsonaro has repeatedly criticized Moraes and other Supreme Court justices, accusing the judge of abusing his powers and censoring conservatives. He has called for Moraes’ impeachment several times during his campaign while portraying the judge who oversaw his father’s conviction for plotting a coup after his 2022 election defeat as a close Lula ally.
