ORICO 9858RU3 / 9858U3 - avoid if possible

Hey all, just a word of warning about this USB DAS, in case someone stumbles upon this post while researching whether to buy it. Tests done with Linux 7.2.9 (Arch, btw), ZFS 2.4.4 and Smartmontools 7.5. Obviously not using the integrated RAID controller. It does not report SMART data, so good luck monitoring drive health The controller is pure shit. Resilvering a ZFS mirror of 2x MG11ACA18TE was going at like 20 MiB/s. After putting them in another DAS it's now going at like 180 MiB/s. Sequential writes weren't able to break 100 MiB/s, and these drives should be able to sustain 170 MiB/s no problem The fan was nice (though no SMART data so no idea how cool the drives were) and the build quality is pretty nice. If the controller wasn't so shit this DAS would be pretty nice. So, just a word of caution, I'd avoid it. I had the 9858RU3, I don't know if the 9858U3 is also shit, but I'd avoid that one too just in case. Also curious to know if anyone here owns this DAS and whether they also experienced these problems. Have a nice Sunday, all.
