Poland Probes Possible Plot to Attack Premier Donald Tusk
Poland is investigating information about a possible attack planned on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński and special services coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak ordered action following information received by police, Karolina Gałecka, spokeswoman for the ministry, said Sunday.
Representatives of Poland’s police force, Government Protection Service and Internal Security Agency met at the agency’s counterterrorism center on Sunday morning, Gałecka said, without providing more detail.

While officials didn’t link their investigation to Russia and its years-long war in Ukraine, so-called hybrid attacks on Europe by Moscow have increased in recent months.

Poland, as a key conduit for aid to Ukraine, has suffered a spate of suspicious incidents, with multiple cyberattacks on public utilities like water, energy infrastructure and hospitals, and damage to the rail line between Warsaw and the Ukrainian border attributed to Russian intelligence. Tusk recently described a fire at a plant for one of Europe’s largest drone makers, WB Electronics, in August as an “act of sabotage,” though no public link was made to Russia.
Poland in September announced that it’s expanding protection of its airspace and strengthening rapid-response defenses, citing the threat from “Russian provocations.”
Separately, Western intelligence agencies have warned executives at European defense companies that Russia is stepping up efforts to assassinate them, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing people in the intelligence community weren’t identified.

Russia also warned in late September that sees defense manufacturers in European countries that help supply arms to Ukraine as “potential military targets.”
Poland’s investigation also comes amid heightened security concerns following a series of violent incidents at schools, including a knife attack on Thursday that killed a school caretaker.
