I built a site that gives you a straight answer to "will I actually see the northern lights tonight?"

no Kp jargon, just a 0–10 score per destination Every aurora app shows you Kp indexes, solar wind speeds and magnetometer plots. But none of that answers the question travelers actually have. The dirty secret is that most "failed" aurora trips die from clouds, not from the sun. So I built auroravisible.com — it combines four things that all have to cooperate (darkness, solar activity, cloud cover, moonlight) into one score per night for 8 destinations (Tromsø, Abisko, Fairbanks, Yellowknife…). The weakest factor becomes the headline: "Clouds are the problem tonight. "It also answers "which month should I book?" — computed from 30 years of geomagnetic records and 10 years of hourly cloud history for each place (fun fact that fell out of the data: March and September really are geomagnetically hotter — the equinox effect is visible in 30 years of records).Free, no login, no ads, formula fully documented on the methodology page. Would love feedback — especially from anyone who's actually up north and can tell me when the score and the sky disagree.
