Upgrade question (iPhone related)

If I have free yearly upgrade and ultimately decide not to get the duo. Does it make sense to exchange my 17 pro max for and 18 pro max just to always ensure the maximum credit? Does that make sense or not really? Dont need or want the 18 pro max really just curious if there’s a benefit.
