India’s Food Regulator Acts Against GLP-1 Supplement for Misleading Claims

India’s federal food regulator issued a notice to the joint venture between Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. and Nestle India Ltd. for misleading and ambiguous claims about its GLP-1 supplement.

The brand name Celevida GLP+ and claims such as “high protein support for lean muscle preservation during GLP-1/GIP therapies” and “imported from Europe for purity” were found to be misleading for consumers, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India said in an Instagram post Thursday. It also issued notices to sellers including Flipkart India Pvt. and Amazon Seller Services Pvt..

The firms did not immediately respond to a Bloomberg News request for comment.

The venture called Dr. Reddy’s and Nestle Health Science Ltd. launched Celevida GLP+ — a high protein powder — in May to support nutrition and muscle mass maintenance for people taking weight-loss and diabetes GLP-1 drugs in India.

The FSSAI has cracked down on companies making false claims in India over the past few months, acting against firms including Dabur India Ltd.
