Before I Turn On My New Pixel Pro 11
If your goal is de-googling, why not setup your new phone on graphene while going through the process on your old phone? When ready, swap your sim. Your old phone will still be there as a backup until its screen totally breaks. If you need to, theres sandboxed google services for graphene, so you can temporarily run those. Maybe in the private space to lock away when not needed. There isn’t a good maps app for the US, but organic maps works great in EU.
While it is a custom os, which you say is behind you, its also the most thorough and secure way really de-google your phone and, from the rest of your post, sounds like where you were going anyway. Google is locking down android to make this harder to do so you’ll have to ditch their os to escape the walled garden.
Either way, get used to obtainium and verified apps. If your using proton mail, you’ll have to switch because proton depends on google services running. Or run play services in graphene, which is still better. Tuta works. Any email provider that supports IMAP will work with fairemail or thunderbird. But Thunderbird doesn’t properly thread email on their mobile client even though they do on desktop. F-droid is ok when using apps custom repos. F-droids own repos has patch lag, so be carefull with that. Certainly do not use it with email, web clients, or messaging clients. You can get signal and molly on obtainium.
