Pressure Mounts at Bessent’s Treasury Amid Staff Turnover and Unmet Goals

Since he became Treasury secretary in early 2025, Scott Bessent has dressed down senior advisers and junior staffers alike over issues large and small, according to interviews with more than a dozen current and former Treasury officials.

Yet President Trump has only pulled Bessent closer, pressing him to solve stubborn problems in the economy and end the war in Iran through sweeping sanctions.
