Tales from the Void: September 2026 Recap
VoidZero is hiring!
If you are interested in teaching developers and growing the community all around the Vite Stack, take a look at the open Developer Relations Engineer position.
Welcome to another edition of Tales from the Void!
Regularly, we recap the project updates for Void, Vite+, Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and what's happening in our community.
Vite+ 1.0 is here
Vite+ 1.0 is out: fully MIT licensed, stable, and past 2 million weekly downloads.
Starting a web project usually means choosing and wiring together a pile of tools, from your runtime to your formatter, and then keeping them in sync with every upgrade. Vite+ takes that work off your plate, so you can focus on shipping features instead of maintaining tooling.
A single CLI, vp, manages your Node.js runtime, your package manager, and your frontend toolchain. One vite-plus dependency and one vite.config.ts replace the usual mix of vite, vitest, eslint, prettier, tsup, and turbo. In practice, that means:
- Less maintenance: upgrades become one version bump, tested as a unit.
- Same commands everywhere:
vp dev,vp check,vp test, andvp buildwork the same in every repo, for your teammates and your coding agents. - Faster feedback: Rust-powered Oxlint, Oxfmt, and Rolldown, plus task caching with
vp run.
Vite+ is framework-agnostic, and your project doesn't even have to use Vite in the first place.
Since the beta in July, Vite+ gained GitLab CI/CD support, tsup migrations, Homebrew and Docker installs, and Git hooks. Projects like Dify, vinext, and Tiptap already use it. And all Laravel starter kits ship with Vite+.
Install it with curl -fsSL https://vite.plus | bash, then run vp create for a new project or vp migrate for an existing one.

Project Updates
Vite+
- Curious how task caching in Vite+ works under the hood? Charles Wang created an explainer video about
vite-task.
Vite
- Bundled Dev Mode, which uses the production bundler in development to cut dev server overhead in large apps, now runs the entire Vite playground suite, and about 74% of the tests that previously failed under it now pass.
- Your edits also apply faster in Bundled Dev Mode: HMR boundaries are computed in the browser, patches are smaller, and an unchanged rebuild sends no update at all.
- Lazy routes load faster in dev too, as
import()no longer fetches a proxy chunk before the real module, halving the requests per route. - If your project folder's name contains
node_modules, Vite 8.3 stops treating all of your own source files as dependencies.
Vitest
- Vitest 5 is out and runs up to 50% faster than Vitest 4 by sharing transformed files across projects, caching modules on disk, and sending less data between the main process and its workers.
- The new
vitest doctorcommand breaks down setup, import, transform, and test time, then tries other configurations and recommends faster settings. - Vitest now catches more false passes by failing unawaited async assertions and clearing mock calls before each test, plus a new
--repeatsflag to help find intermittent failures.
Rolldown
- Too many small chunks in your build? Rolldown 1.2.12 adds experimental
inlineCommonChunks, which inlines common chunks and deduplicates shared code in lazy chunks, so your users fetch fewer files per route. - Builds that use
codeSplitting.groupsormanualChunksgot faster, as Rolldown now cachesgetModuleInfoduring a chunking pass instead of repeatedly converting module data from native to JavaScript.
Oxc
- Assigning files to their TypeScript program, the work that blocks linting and type checking from starting, is up to 6x faster in tsgolint.
- The
no-unnecessary-type-assertionrule gets up to ~60% faster by rejecting incompatible types first. - tsgolint is trying out four checker scheduling strategies so type checking and linting stop repeating work. Try them on your repo via
OXLINT_TSGOLINT_CHECKER_SCHEDULINGand share your numbers. - Oxlint gained experimental per-rule timings for JS plugins, so
oxlint --debug timingstells you which rules slow down your lint runs.

From The Community
- For Cloudflare's Birthday Week, we looked back at four months of VoidZero at Cloudflare: over 80 releases shipped, more than 1,200 issues closed, and a glimpse into the future.
- Hono creator Yusuke Wada joined the VoidZero team.
- Angular's upcoming TypeScript 7-powered compiler will use Oxc.
- The Angular CLI gained a native library builder that bundles packages with Rolldown and
rolldown-plugin-dts. - Hono moved its tooling to Vite+, cutting linting and formatting from a combined 8.22s to 1.60s.

- OpenCode's desktop app runs on Vite's Bundled Dev Mode with lazy compilation.
- Wes and CJ covered the Vitest 5 release on Syntax.
