Problems in the original that I left as they are:

* git log -r doesn't reverse the output: -r is the diff option for recursing into subtrees. You want --reverse.

* git push N:refs/release/… doesn't name a remote, so it needs origin.

* "tracing out a linked list of commands" should probably say "commits."
