made selfhosted webhook gateway, removed kafka from it and now it runs on small vps
hey all railhook is webhook gateway you host yourself i built it for my fintech project. we deploy often and every deploy we lost some webhooks from payment provider, found out only when money didnt match. so it recieves webhook (github, shopify, slack, payment providers etc), checks signature, saves it and forwards with retries. if your service is down during deploy nothing lost. works other way too if your app need to send webhooks to users, retries, signatures, log of every attempt with request/response in 3.0 i deleted kafka completely, now worker just takes rows from postgres. stack is postgres redis api worker ui, ~3gb ram. half of weird bugs dissapeared with it did k6 tests on my laptop (everything on one machine): 100 events/sec with 0 errors and p99 27ms, 10k deliveries to 50 endpoints in 12.6 sec. killed endpoint for 2 min under load, 2701 events delivered exactly once, no duplicates also has cli ( railhook listen 3000 tunnels webhooks to your localhost), customer portal you can embed for your users, replay, alerts to slack/discord etc, grafana dashboards demo without registration: railhook.io/demo run it: git clone github.com/vadymkykalo/railhook && cd railhook cp .env.dist .env # change secrets and passwords in .env COMPOSE_PROFILES=embedded-db docker compose up -d embedded-db starts postgres in docker too, without it point to your own db. or just make up to try locally MIT about AI, yeah i use claude code, a lot since august, around half of commits has it as co-author so no point to hide it. honestly first weeks it was pain. it writes working code but puts paragraph of comments on every method and never deletes anything, everything stays "for compatibility". so i spent a lot of evenings just reading what it did and cutting stuff out. after some time i wrote rules in repo for it and added CI checks that fail build when it does the usual things, now its much better. but what to build and what to throw away is still on me, kafka removal for example was mine, it would never suggest to delete half of the system lol feedback welcome, especially if install breaks somewhere site: railhook.io github: github.com/vadymkykalo/railhook
