Remember when GPT 6 Astra released and everyone, even the most obnoxious AI bros were like "AGI IS HERE THIS TIME. LIKE FOR REAL!" And then what like barely a month later the same ppl saying Astra was the first coming of AI Jesus see Opus 5.5 release and are then like "erhm actually Astra isn't that good, in fact, Sonnet 5.5 is better than Astra when you REALLY think about it." Like idk man I'm for the most part all for this kind of competition (domestically, bc the foreign model market is already doing so much of the heavy lifting in keeping things accessible here in the US), but I just think that at this point we've cried wolf so many times that be the time AGI does actually arrive it'll be a drop in the pond of AGI adjacent models to where almost nothing feels exciting anymore. Call me a doomer sure, but I'm starting to see what people mean by numbness to purpose and progress because of the constant bombardment from both ends of it. I mean constant progress constant fear mongering, a new rogue agent today, a new rogue agent team tomorrow, but it's actually been here since last week, type of thing. It's all starting to feel so......scripted? Like it's all one big advertisement. I kinda lost my own plot half way thru this. I guess I just wanted to vent my annoyances with what I see happening. Things used to feel exciting just a few months to around a year ago but lately it feels oppressive and I don't even wanna bother keeping up half the time, but I feel like I have to for some reason. I really wasn't sure what the best subreddit for this was but this one seemed like a good middle ground
