Dangers of cutting SATA cables?

So long story short, I use a laptop as my server and wish to attach a 2.5" 5TB HDD to it. It was however only thought for SSD and so I purchased both of these SATA cables to go over the limitation. Since they were also not fitting, I tried to cut them and, magic, it now fits and the HDD works on boot! I am however wondering if I now created a fire hazard as I also had to cut a part inside made of a different plastic. Also are there maybe chances of data loss?
