LinkedIn’s CEO on How AI Is Reshaping Hiring

Good morning. Artificial intelligence is complicating an already tricky hiring market in the U.S., but the same technology could also be part of the solution, according to LinkedIn CEO Dan Shapero.

The number of applications submitted per job seeker on LinkedIn has risen about 30% since the pandemic, Shapero said, with many people using AI to write, tailor and blast them off. The result is that recruiters are struggling to identify qualified candidates amid a deluge of AI-generated résumés.

“It’s gotten harder and harder for employers to know who can actually do the job anymore,” he said.

Shapero said that part of his focus as chief executive of LinkedIn is using AI to help solve that labor mismatch. Shapero became CEO in April after 18 years in various roles at the company, most recently as chief operating officer.
