AI Usage Now at 18.8% Among Working-Age People

Good morning. A new report from Microsoft shows that global AI usage rose to 18.8% of working-age people in the second quarter, albeit with some notable disparities by country.

The gain, up about 1 percentage point from the first quarter, was broad-based, according to Microsoft. But it reflects disparities in AI diffusion, or the spread of the technology across populations. Usage in the global North is now 28.8% compared with 16.2% in the global South. At the national level, however, countries that lead AI development don’t lead the world in usage.
