Today I was thinking about Zyzzyva, a genus of weevils which I assume was named by some biologist who wanted to be last in the dictionary.

When I see that pattern, I always imagine that it was generated by an L-system, in this case

z → zy
y → z

so that we can imagine the system generating increasingly long names for weevils:

Zva → Zyva → Zyzva → Zyzzyva → Zyzzyzyzva → Zyzzyzyzzyzzyva → …
