I spent 6 months building a bodybuilding app and everyone just tells me the colours hurt their eyes
I’ve been building a bodybuilding and strength training app for the past 6 months, and one of the main reasons I started it was because I felt like nearly every gym app looked the same. Same clean white or black layouts. Same generic exercise photos. Same stock looking demonstrations. Same overall feel. I wanted to build something that actually had a bit of personality, so I went completely the opposite direction and went with a neon cyberpunk style. It definitely stands out. Maybe a little too much 😂 The funny thing is, most of the feedback I’ve received so far has been about the colours. People saying they’re too bright, the neon hurts their eyes, or the UI is too intense. Very few people have actually commented on how the app performs. And that’s the part I’ve spent countless hours working on. I use the app myself every day in the gym and it does exactly what I originally wanted it to do. You can follow full bodybuilding and strength programs, track every set, weight, reps and RPE, track your progress, build custom workouts and more. I’ve also added an AI coach called Titan and I’m constantly working on improving the responses and making the advice more useful based on your actual training data. The workout plan generation is now at a point where I’m really happy with it. Same with the meal plan builder. Calories, macros, meals, food preferences, budget and the other details are all taken into account when creating the plan. There are still plenty of things I want to improve, but after putting this many hours into the actual functionality, it’s slightly painful when the main feedback is basically: “Green too bright.” 😂 I’d genuinely love feedback from people who actually train every week, especially bodybuilders, strength athletes or anyone who tracks their workouts properly. I’m particularly interested in whether the actual workout experience makes sense once you start using it, rather than just judging it from screenshots. If anyone wants to properly go through the workouts and have a look. nxtstepfitness.com The site has links to both the App Store and Google Play. The app is completely free to download, there’s no sign in required, and you can use the main app without paying. Would really appreciate some feedback from actual gym users. And yes, you’re allowed to tell me the colours hurt your eyes too 😂
