Having a hard time with flowery prose. How to build a tolerance to purple prose?

I read very widely. Yes genre wise but also in terms of the "quality" of prose. From fan fiction to classics. I am not a pretentious or sophisticated person at all. I now mostly read contemporary works. I love booktube and follow many channels. I get most if not all my recommendations from people talking about books on there. Anything that sounds enticing I pick it up. I now only read maybe 1 or 2 classics a year. I am having a really hard time reading overly flowery and lyrical writing. Let me explain with some examples. Olivie Blake- I just can't seem to get on with her writing. She makes me feel soooo stupid to the point I forget the meaning of words I know well! I know her writing is well respected and praised. I get the overall themes if I zoom out, but I am a very detailed reader. I need to thoroughly comprehend every sentence before progressing. With her writing I find it verges on word salad. I so often ask myself "what does that even mean?" To me it is overwrought and pretentious for the sake of being pretentious. I looveeed Kaveh Akbar's Martyr! I cannot adequately describe the feelings his writing elicited from me. It wrecked me. It devastated me. The writing was so incredibly beautiful and lush. There are so many passages and quotes from that book that live in my head rent free. I read it over a year ago and I can't get over it. I have written down all my favorite quotes and passages and often revisit them. This is his debut novel. He is a poet, and I really truly connected with his style of writing so deeply. V.E. Schwab's The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue was gorgeous! Oh her writing is exactly the type of rhythm, song and beat I thoroughly enjoy! "Effortless" is what comes to my mind when I think about her beautiful, pretty words. I did not care for the plot or the story at all. Very eurocentric and underdeveloped imo but for once I didn't care because her writing was exquisite. It felt so effortless and smooth. I really want to read more by her but none of the blurbs/premise of her other books sound appealing to me so far. Kate Morton's writing in "Homecoming", I found to be so impressive and technically sound, thoroughly enjoyable. I wouldn't describe it as flowery with endless metaphors but it is elevated without being overly simplistic like Liz Moore's "God of the Woods" (enjoyed both! same genre and type of book-HF/thriller). She definitely has a distinct writing style imo. I feel like I have the potential to understand and appreciate lyrical, poetic prose but more often than not when I encounter such writing I can't seem to tolerate it. "When the Moon Hatched" by Sarah Parker is praised for its flowery, lyrical prose and I couldn't get past 10%. I feel like I have such a low tolerance for purple prose. I dismiss such writing very early on. i seem to have no patience for it. If i cannot glean the meaning of an unfamiliar/obscure word from the context of the sentence I label it purple prose and dnf. i want to do better. I want to be able to appreciate and get through an Olivie Blake type of book without finding the writing to be incredibly pretentious and boring, because I do like her themes. How do I get better at this? I read widely from ff all the way to "respected" classics. I want to enjoy this type of "intellectual", flowery writing that to me more often than not sounds like word salad? Should I be reading more "literary" award winning books to develop said tolerance? TIA.
