Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: Have you switched brokerages (Fidelity, Vanguard, Schwab, Merrill, …) and why?

the only brokerage i've switched away from was vanguard. the products they offer just aren't as good as the competitors.

i diversify among multiple brokerages.

fidelity has my 401k in it, so i'll always have a presence there. but even if i wasn't forced, fidelity is the best all-in-one place to do banking and investments. free everything. HSA. free ATM reimbursements. brainless cash sweep. they do it all.

schwab is a close second. almost all the benefits of fidelity. they have a real bank if that matters to you. no cash sweep. the thinkorswim trading platform is excellent.

interactive brokers. access to cheap margin loans when needed without the need to open box spreads. but if you wanted to trade box spreads, this would be the place to do it.

merrill. pretty crappy brokerage, but it's fine to just hold some ETFs and collect the dividends. only here for the credit cards.
