Investing - Theory, News & General • Chasing dividend in funds
Which is safer? Chasing dividends in equity funds OR chasing dividends in a HY bond fund. You always hear the phrase “take your risk on the equity side”. Why is a high yield bond fund that holds a large portfolio of bonds so risky? Is it riskier than equities? If you just use the dividend payouts as income or to buy equity holdings or reinvest, why wouldn’t this be a viable strategy? Especially if held in a tax sheltered account. Does it beat inflation on a total return basis? It sure seems like a better place to park $’s than a MMF if you don’t need to cash it out in the near future.
