Investing - Theory, News & General • How to exchange mutual fund for ETF on Vanguard

I am rebalancing my Vanguard IRA and want to exchange some holdings of VFIAX (mutual fund) for VXUS (ETF). The "exchange" interface only lets me exchange like for like. I can just sell VFIAX and buy VXUS in two transactions but then I have to wait for the sale proceeds to appear in my settlement fund—or do I? Is it safe to expect the proceeds to land before the buy order executes?

Just curious what Bogleheads do since the wiki says that rebalancing takes less than an hour. (I know there is a mutual fund version of VXUS but this is a general question about the Vanguard interface.)
