→ @mattblaze Do you follow Adam Unikowsky's blog? He's a lawyer at Jenner & Block who clerked for Scalia and has practiced before the Supreme Court several times. I almost always find his blog interesting and informative.

Last week he published an article about the proposed Post Office rules which had an interesting take I haven't seen before. He seems to be saying that the main goal of the proposed rules isn't necessarily to interfere with ballot delivery in the midterms, it's to get the voter rolls: “my guess is that it’s to get the lists. That’s the point of this rule: for the federal government to vacuum up information on who is receiving, and who is returning, mail ballots.”

“Why does the Postal Service want the lists? Answer: the Postal Service plans to share them with other law enforcement entities. This isn’t a paranoid fantasy, it’s what the rule itself says”.

He observes that “There’s currently a separate stream of litigation in which the federal government is suing states trying to get access to their voter rolls. These lawsuits have failed 23 straight times. So the federal government is trying something different.”

The article continues with a detailed discussion of the Post Office's arguments in favor of the rules, and his own analysis of why those arguments should fail.
