Can I just buy an unlocked iPhone to trade in for the massive discount on the iPhone 18?

I have an iPhone 11 I was looking to see if I could take advantage of the FB marketplace and get an iPhone with a better trade in value. Can I buy that and then trade it in for the larger discount for the new iPhone even if my iPhone 11 is the one that is activated on my plan? Thank you!
