Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: Three-Fund Portfolio without dividends? For managing MAGI after retirement due to ACA
The only thing that hurts more than paying an income tax is not having to pay an income tax.
--Lord Thomas Robert Dewar
What a ridiculous statement.
Both in regards to its plan verbiage and in relation to the subject of this thread.
Going over the ACA cliff by a mere $1 can (or does) result in the imposition of thousands of dollars of (effectively, federal income) tax due. In my case, I’m looking at probably a $12,000+ tax bill if that happens.
Or, I can do whatever legally it takes to keep my income below the cliff and walk away with a federal tax obligation of $0.
So, please tell me, how does paying nothing hurt more than paying $12,000+?
