These modules are purpose-built server hardware, and that distinction is exactly what drives the price.
These aren’t your standard desktop RAM sticks. The modules are likely dual-rank ECC LRDIMMs — ECC stands for Error-Correcting Code, memory designed for servers that detects and fixes data errors before they cause crashes. That reliability premium is baked into the price. Current Newegg listings put individual 64GB DDR4-2666 modules anywhere from the mid-$200s to around $400 depending on the exact SKU, which makes the $12,000 estimate plausible — but not guaranteed. Actual realized value depends on several variables:
