Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: Two New Vanguard Muni ETFs (MUNY, VTEL) Due May 22

resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has more experience with MUNY over the last 6 months? Morningstar shows the Bid/ask spread is 0.51% which seems high to me? It's still a very new ETF but curious to know if anyone here has been using it and their experience with liquidity and spread
I had a good experience selling my MUNY shares to buy NYF.
Vanguard helped force BlackRock ishares lower their ER which was the only reason I went with MUNY before that occurred.
Honestly the volume is a bit low for NYF, and much lower still for MUNY.
If you need to trade in larger $ amounts, neither is great but NYF is better.
I have the bulk of my munis in VNYUX but I am gradually buying NYF (after a brief holding of MUNY).
Given NYF has been around for years and its volume is still low, hard to imagine MUNY will amount to much.
Hard to imagine Vanguard can grow this fund much since NYF has been around since 2007 and is just approaching $1B,
as compared to VNYUX which is over $5B in assets.

I want this fund to succeed but NY munis is a niche market and Vanguard already had a very large share of it.
Unless people start moving existing assets from VNYUX to MUNY, dont think the fund will grow all that quickly.

Adding a data point to this old thread. I tried a place a very large limit order for purchase of MUNY and there was only a trivial partial fills when offering a penny above the ask. I had to walk the limit up penny by penny several times to get all the shares I needed to buy. I probably paid $250 in an illiquidity premium to get the full order to go through. Anyway, I've now added to the market cap...but those shares will likely stay parked for decades so am not going to do much to the volume. Oh and note it's not really MY money. I'm just clicking the buttons.
