Asus creates world's first 240Hz gaming glasses that bring a 171-inch screen directly to your eyes

Asus has created the world’s first 240Hz gaming glasses, and they can make it feel like you’re sitting in front of a gigantic 171-inch screen.

The ROG XREAL R1 lets you play games on a huge virtual display without actually needing a huge TV or monitor.

They’re small enough to wear on your face and can connect to everything from a gaming PC to a PlayStation or Xbox.

And somehow, Asus has packed all of this into a pair of glasses weighing just 91 grams.

The main attraction here with these gaming glasses is pretty obvious – the ROG XREAL R1 can make your games look like they’re being played on a screen measuring up to 171 inches.

That’s roughly the size of a small cinema screen, except you don’t need to find somewhere in your house to put it.

Instead, the screen appears in front of you when you’re wearing the glasses.

The glasses were created by Asus in partnership with XREAL, a company that specializes in AR glasses, and they’re aimed squarely at people who want a more immersive way to play their games.

You can connect them to a PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Asus’ ROG Ally handheld, meaning you aren’t limited to one particular gaming system.

Because the virtual screen stays in place as you move your head, it can feel much more like you’re sitting in front of a massive TV, and another big selling point is the 240Hz refresh rate.

Without getting too technical, that basically means the action on screen can look incredibly smooth, which should be particularly useful when playing fast-paced games.

There’s also a 0.01ms response time, meaning there’s very little delay between what’s happening in the game and what you see through the glasses.

The ROG XREAL R1 could be the ultimate portable gaming screen

One of the coolest things about the R1 is that you don’t have to dedicate an entire room to gaming.

The glasses can effectively give you a giant screen wherever you are: want to play in bed or on a trip? You can, no problem.

Want to play your favorite console game without someone else taking over the TV? That’s where these could really come in handy.

The glasses also have adjustable lenses that can change how much light comes through, making it easier to use them in different surroundings.

There’s even built-in audio made by Bose, so you don’t necessarily need to wear a separate gaming headset.

Asus has also made them surprisingly light, at just 91 grams, they’re considerably smaller and easier to carry around than any 171-inch television could ever be.

Of course, there’s one rather large catch – the ROG XREAL R1 isn’t cheap – the glasses launched in the US for $849.

That’s a lot of money for a gaming accessory, but you’re also getting something that would be almost impossible to recreate with a traditional screen.

For anyone who dreams of having a gigantic gaming setup but doesn’t have the space for one, these glasses could offer a pretty futuristic solution.

And honestly, being able to put on a pair of glasses and suddenly have what feels like a cinema screen in front of you is pretty wild.
