Before releasing, do you hire QA or just rely on developers to test? I will not Promote

Do you mostly rely on developers to test their own work, use freelancers, work with an agency, or just manage without dedicated QA for a while? I’m especially curious about what actually makes you trust a QA person or service enough to give them access to your product.
