Nvidia Discusses $2.5 Billion Investment in Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab

Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab is in talks to raise between $5 billion and $6 billion at a pre-money valuation of at least $40 billion, with venture firm Accel in discussions to lead the round, The Information reported. Chipmaking giant Nvidia is expected to contribute roughly half of the capital, deepening its strategic push to back open-source AI model developers, the report said.

The fundraise comes as the startup is generating hundreds of millions in annualized revenue, though the pricing reflects a slight drop from the $50 billion-plus valuation it sought late last year. Murati has voting control over the startup’s board on major corporate decisions, regardless of how other directors vote.
