NCTD to suspend coastal rail service Sept. 12-13 for maintenance
The North County Transit District will suspend all coastal rail service this month to perform routine maintenance, transit officials announced Tuesday.
The closure, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13, will pause all coaster service between San Diego and Oceanside. Regular service is scheduled to resume on the morning of Monday, Sept. 14, according to the NCTD.
Transit officials said weekend closures take place periodically throughout the year on a predetermined schedule to allow construction crews to work safely on and along the rail line. The downtime enables workers to complete preventive maintenance improvements and advance major construction efforts.
No passenger or freight trains will run during the closure. However, test trains, construction vehicles and equipment will remain active along the railroad right-of-way and on the tracks over the weekend. Officials advised residents to remain alert to cross rail lines only at designated crossings.
