Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: AI payoff
My point is, all of this stuff was free for me. So I'm wondering, how are these companies going to monetize the massive spend happening now?
They have been monetizing generative AI use cases in workplaces, though it seems like they are still heavily subsidizing costs, the company I work for, and those of my peers, seem to be steering their staff towards a different model provider every other month
I find it amusing that if I travel for work, I need to provide receipts for trivial expenses like a meal. Yet, I use these tools at work all day everyday, and it doesn't matter if I spend $3,000 one month and $8,000 the next month on "AI" tool usage. Those "AI" expenses didn't exist until recently, and they are variable based on consumption/utilization. Meanwhile, a $30 receipt from a recent travel expense was initially rejected for being too blurry, which is fair, I fixed it, but context.
You would think the finance people would be going ballistic since no one using the tools forecasts what our spend might be in the future, we are just spending it, and executives give us all the green light. Maybe someone forecasts things at the company level I don't know. Also the costs are definitely discounted, based on my token usage my costs would be far higher(comically) if I had an individual account
Anyway it's been interesting
