Weeknotes 35 - 2026
The best thing that happened this week
It's been a while since I wrote these. I went away for vacation, celebrated my birthday and then I had to get back to work.
In the meantime though, and that's by far the best thing that's happened lately, I've been digging into running again. I've been battling this injury and while I still sometimes feel it niggle, I've been running without pain for the past few weeks. This means I can really go for it again and so far it's working. I do of course still have to be careful and take enough time for rest in between runs, but my pace is improving and I'm building up the confidence I need to go for longer runs.
My body fat percentage is also dropping while my weight stays the same, which means the strength work and the small changes to my eating habits are paying off too.
I'll just have to grind on by myself and see where I end up in terms of fitness. I've got some pretty crazy ideas for next year but I'm taking it one step at a time for now.
Random things
For my birthday I got a few things that I'm super excited about
- Lego Game Boy – my wife and daughter gave me the Lego Game Boy set and my daughter and I have been building it together which was just wonderful to do. It sits in my home office now and will forever be a memory and just a really cool thing to look at.
- Shokz OpenRun – this thing is really close to magic. Somehow it emits sound and it's really quite good for the use case that it's for. Obviously it can't compete with AirPods, let alone full-size headphones, but it honestly surprised me. They feel like really solid technology and I think if these ones ever break I'll buy them again as soon as I can.
- Timex MK1 Automatic – I've been looking at this watch for months before finally getting it for myself. It's my first automatic watch and the only one that really spoke to me when looking at hundreds of different ones. I absolutely love this watch and how it looks, how it feels, the little noise it makes. I'm psyched to wear it every day next to my Garmin Cirqa.
I'll be following the UTMB live coverage with the main race starting soon!
And as for myself, tomorrow is long run day so I'm gathering my stuff and turning in for sleep early tonight.
