Maja Rivić’s double album Drugo Sunce (“Second Sun”) explores the relationship between jazz, improvisation, and contemporary sound through layered compositions that balance structure and spontaneity. The design underlines those principles by establishing a dialogue between photography and typography, treating both as equal compositional elements.

The cover is based on portraits developed in close collaboration with photographer Marina Uzelac. During the photoshoot, emphasis was placed on the artist’s face, while makeup and jewelry subtly accentuated its natural asymmetries. Instead of leaving the front cover portrait unobstructed, the typography extends across the entire image. Set in Gridular by CoType, the outlined letterforms reveal the portrait beneath while altering the visual character of the typeface, from its rational, Wim Crouwel-inspired geometry toward an appearance associated with 1970s display typography. Printed in black with UV varnish, the typography fragments the nearly life-size portrait while reinforcing the underlying symmetry of the composition.

The gatefold interior presents a collage assembled from another portrait, translating the repetitive, layered, and exploratory qualities of the music into a single image. The two inner sleeves adopt restrained, modernist layouts defined by generous negative space, solid colours, and oversized outlined typography identifying each record side. The labels continue the same visual system, alternating between the typographic composition from the cover and cropped portrait details. The back of the gatefold remains intentionally understated, combining a third portrait with track listing and production credits in a small typographic scale.

The design is based on a limited vocabulary of elements that are systematically reconfigured across the package, establishing a coherent visual system that reflects the album's compositional minimalist and experimental approach.
