The Rencontres de Lure is a week-long meetup dedicated to typography and letter, held every summer in the south of France since 1952. For all the participants, it is as much a place to rest (hidden away in a charming village of Provence) than a place to learn—from the conferences and the dinner conversations alike. This very special atmosphere is precisely what gave mini studio and Anton Moglia the idea of a holiday workbook: a tool to learn and have fun at the same time.

This workbook is aimed at all designers and typographers—beginners and experts alike.
Through 33 activities, it offers a playful and educational approach to typography, lettering, calligraphy, and composition—guided by Titivillus, the mischievous little demon known during the Middle Ages for scattering errors throughout the work of copyist monks. One can learn the basis of calligraphy, redraw missing glyphs from words, discover one’s typographic horoscope and solve tricky word and letter puzzles, all in one place!

Three fonts were used, all designed by Anton Moglia. AM Dehors (derived from Dauphine CC by Charles Mazé and Coline Sunier) is used for text, being reminiscent of twentieth century school manuals and, obviously, maps. It is . Le Cygne and its playful roundness were chosen for titles and finally Titivillus, a version of Hamlet Cicero 12 with a slightly updated character set. Hamlet Cicero 12, designed by Rafael Ribas and Alexis Faudot (ANRT) is one of the typefaces created in the Gotico-Antiqua project, based on Edward Johnston’s Hamlet.

Mini studio and Anton Moglia created most of the activities, but since the Rencontres de Lure are all about collective work and sharing, all the remaining ones exist thanks to the help of other talented creatives: Philippe Dabasse, Loïc Le Gall, Jack Usine, Julien Imbert, Saint-Blandin, Aurélien Mathe and Océane Juvin.
Special thanks to Asile who offered to make Titivillus come to life through her illustrations.
