Partner arrested in fatal stabbing during altercation in City Heights home

A 33-year-old man was fatally stabbed Friday during an altercation in his house in City Heights and his 33-year-old female live-in domestic partner was arrested.

Officers responded around 11:30 a.m. to the 4000 block of 39th Street after receiving reports of a loud argument followed by an apparent stabbing, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The responding officers located a man with significant bleeding inside the home, along with a woman who sustained minor injuries, police said. The man was immediately administered life-saving measures, but despite those efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation determined that the 33-year-old woman had stabbed the man during the altercation.

Further investigation revealed that the couple lived together as common-law spouses and shared a young child, who was at school during the fatal attack.

Investigators contacted officers assigned to the San Diego Unified School Police to locate the child and to confirm the child’s safety, police said.

The woman was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment related to her injuries sustained during the dispute. She was later released from the hospital and taken into custody before being booked at the Las Colinas Detention Facility on suspicion of murder.

Police said the man’s name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
