Nordstrom closing store at Lombard shopping center, 101 employees to be laid off
A popular Nordstrom store at a west suburban shopping center will close next month, with more than 100 employees set to be laid off.
Nordstrom Last Chance at Yorktown Center in Lombard will close for good in September, a statement from the company confirmed to NBC Chicago. A WARN Act notice posted by Nordstrom Aug. 7, shows 101 employees will be laid off as part of the closure.
“The store’s last day of business will be Sept. 1,” a statement from Nordstrom said. The statement went on to say that the decision is “a result of successful efforts” to streamline its inventory management, which reduced the need for the Yorktown Center store.
“We believe we’ll be best able to serve customers in the area by leveraging our surrounding stores and through our digital channels.”
Nordstrom said it was working with impacted employees to find other roles within the company.
The closure come as the company said its Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores in 2025 saw its strongest growth in a decade. In the fall of 2026, a new Nordstrom Rack is set to open at Bloomingdale Court.
