Apple releases iOS 26.6.1 for iPhone

Apple has released iOS 26.6.1, a point update for iPhone users, on August 17, 2026. The software is available now via Settings > General > Software Update on compatible devices.
This is a security-focused release. Apple’s official release notes state: “This update provides security fixes for your iPhone.” Users are directed to Apple’s security content page (support.apple.com/100100) for details on the fixes, though the full list of addressed vulnerabilities may not appear immediately. It is possible the update also includes minor bug fixes or performance refinements, even if those are not highlighted in the notes.
iOS 26.6.1 follows the public release of iOS 26.6 in late July. The build number is 23G82. A matching iPadOS 26.6.1 update has also been issued. The release comes as Apple prepares for the larger iOS 27 rollout expected in mid-September.
To install, open Settings > General > Software Update, and follow the on-screen prompts. Ensure your iPhone is charged or connected to power and has a stable Wi-Fi connection. As with any system update, it is advisable to back up your device first.iOS 26.6.1 does not introduce new user-facing features. Users seeking major changes will need to wait for iOS 27.
