07:31 Oh my God, Comminges and Adelaide in the Trappist Monastery is beautiful
I recently came across it and the look of it just felt like looking at a dream:

But then I spent sometime trying to learn about the story:
Comminges and Adelaide were lovers, but after Comminges was led to believe that Adelaide had died, he gave up his life and entered the Trappist monastery of La Trappe. What he did not know was that Adelaide was still alive, and had followed him into the monastery disguised as a monk, just so she could remain near him. The painting shows Comminges digging his own grave while Adelaide sits in front of him, and the tragic part is that he has no idea who she really is. He thinks he is mourning a dead woman, while the woman herself is sitting right there, watching him. Apparently, he only discovers her identity when she is dying, which makes the whole scene feel almost cruel in how close they are to each other while being completely unable to reach each other.
This is so.. intense, and beautiful. #Art
