can you prevent nic reset during iso/install start

i have some servers connected via shared idrac when ethernet ports in a rack are at a premium. i swear this used to work (but i may be making it up), normally via dell idrac i can mount whatever iso over the one connected ethernet port and boot and install whatever. however using any of the last several proxmox isos when i start an install it looks like proxmox likes to try network discovery dhcp and such and at that point it seems to reset the nic enough that it breaks the iso network...
