What modern (1900->) books have created a new type of plot?

Most of the general story structures/plots are ancient or at least invented by some pre-modern writer like Shakespeare. The only modern one that immediately comes to mind is Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None as its plot of an isolated group of characters getting killed one by one and the killer is one thought to be dead.
