Do we want new contributors on SO?

A new user posted this question. It is not the most clearly written question; when I came across it there was already one close vote, and I admit I considered adding a close vote. But on closer inspection of the question it made sense to me, so I wrote an answer instead.

A day later, two more close votes appeared and the question was closed. I contend that the question is not really unclear. It could be better-written, but I suspect that the OP is not a native English speaker. It is clear that the OP did not use AI to generate or rewrite the question. And I really don't see how anyone could look at the question together with the answer and think that this question is unclear, which suggests that the late close votes are more penalties for the poor writing. The question is not deep; it can be answered by consulting the documentation, but this is not a reason to close the question, and it certainly doesn't make the question unclear.

In these times when new questions and users are increasingly rare, when AI-slop is so frequently posted, it seems to me that we should approach honest questions, especially from new contributors, in a spirit of generosity. Penalizing them for being unclear-at-a-glance will only drive new contributors away.
