Tigo announces expanded eligibility for virtual power plants

Tigo Energy has announced the eligibility of its products for new grid-supporting virtual power plant programs in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.

Specifically, the company says its products are now eligible (or soon will be), for programs in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Virginia.

“Expanding program eligibility gives more installers the opportunity to deliver differentiated energy solutions while helping homeowners unlock additional value from their battery systems,” said Tigo chief marketing and customer experience officer JD DIllon in a statement. “I’m looking forward to speaking with installers from the Mid-Atlantic region about this at the upcoming RE+ show in Philadelphia.”

On its website, the company maintains a list of active and upcoming battery incentive and VPP programs in which its products are eligible to participate. In addition to the states listed above, Tigo also names programs in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, North and South Carolina, Puerto Rico and Texas.

For these programs, owners of systems that use Tigo’s “Energy Intelligence” (EI) series inverters and EI or Go batteries can enroll to earn rewards for allowing their respective utility companies to access the energy stored in their batteries at specific times. Customers that wish to enrol in the grid-supporting programs can apply using the Tigo EI App or online EI Portal.

In addition to providing its own full suite of solar inverter and battery products, Tigo now supplies certain module-level power electronics to inverter company EG4 Electronics. Under the partnership, Tigo’s U.S.-made power optimizer products and other parts are integrated into EG4 inverters.
