Nvidia Reportedly Preparing GPU Price Increases of Up to 30% Following Samsung DRAM Hike
Nvidia is reportedly planning to increase graphics card prices by up to 30% after Samsung raised DRAM prices by 20%, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News (UDN).
Samsung provides the memory chips used in Nvidia's graphics cards. Unlike previous 2026 increases that mainly impacted high-end models, this round is expected to affect the entire Blackwell GPU lineup.
The reported figures reflect supplier-side prices, and the exact impact on retail prices remains unclear. Nvidia has not commented on the reported increases. I
Nvidia’s Reported GPU Price Hike Reaches the Full Blackwell Lineup
According to the Economic Daily News, Samsung has raised DRAM prices by 20%, and in response Nvidia is reported to be planning graphics card price increases of up to 30%.
The reported figures are supplier-side prices rather than confirmed retail prices, so the eventual impact at retail is not yet known.
If a full 30% increase is passed to retail, IGN estimates the RTX 5090, which reached about $5,000 earlier this year, could rise to approximately $6,500.
The RTX 5070, launched at $549 in February 2025 and now selling for about $650, could increase to around $850.ound $850.
This would not be the first Nvidia GPU price increase this year. In February, the RTX 5090 rose to about $5,000 and has remained at that level. Nvidia was also rumored to have discontinued the RTX 5070 Ti due to memory demand, but this did not occur.
Earlier increases were mostly confined to higher-end cards. This round is reported to affect the entire Blackwell lineup, extending the impact to mid-range models like the RTX 5070 that were less affected previously.
Memory Shortage Pressures Nvidia Prices and Buyer Timing
The reported increase is linked to the ongoing memory shortage, which is expected to continue. Micron's CEO has stated the RAM shortage may last through 2027 and begin easing in 2028.
Valve recently indicated the memory crisis is worsening, and Microsoft has expressed concern about further price increases affecting its hardware.
For buyers considering a GPU or PC purchase amid these reported increases, practical considerations include:
- Monitor current retail prices against estimates, as the reported 30% increase is supplier-side and the retail impact is not yet confirmed.
- Consider purchasing a needed GPU sooner, as supplier prices are rising and the shortage is expected to persist into 2027.
- Evaluate current-generation cards in stock at existing prices before increases reach retail.
- Keep in mind the shortage affects both system RAM and GPU memory, so full PC builds may face additional cost increases.
What’s Still Unconfirmed About the Reported Price Increase
The reported price increases are based on the Economic Daily News and have not been confirmed by Nvidia. The exact retail impact, timing, and which Blackwell models will be affected first remain unknown.
While the 20% Samsung DRAM increase is the stated trigger, it is unclear how much of the supplier-side increase Nvidia will pass on to card prices.
