the way i use it to read papers has completely changed what i'm able to keep up with, and the trick is refusing the summary

i read a lot of technical literature adjacent to my field and i'd fallen badly behind, because reading a paper properly is slow and there are more papers every week than any human can process. the obvious move is to have it summarize them, and i tried that, and it's a trap. summaries give you the illusion of having read something. you can repeat the conclusion and you understand nothing, and you find out in the worst possible way, which is when someone asks you a question one layer down. what actually works
