Is there a good image viewer for Linux that can show the metadata title of an image?

Is there a good image viewer for Linux that gives the user this option: when displaying an image that has a metadata title, the application shows the metadata title in the interface instead of the file name?

VLC can do this trick, but in general it's a very limited and clumsy image viewer.

I'd strongly prefer a fairly simple, compact application, if that's possible. A larger application that can run portably might be a reasonable alternative.
